The French maison reported third-quarter revenue of €4.1 billion, up 4.3% at constant exchange rates and 5.5% at current rates, but the headline number hides the real story. Its Leather Goods and Saddlery division grew 10.8% at constant exchange rates to €1.91 billion — the strongest performance of any of the group’s main business lines, and a clear signal that demand for the Birkin, Kelly and their newer siblings remains unshaken.

A division that leads the house

For the first nine months of 2026, consolidated revenue reached €12.26 billion, rising 5.5% at constant exchange rates and 2.9% at current rates. Leather Goods and Saddlery contributed €5.67 billion of that, up 10.2% at constant exchange rates against the same period in 2025. In the quarter alone, the division climbed to €1.91 billion from €1.70 billion a year earlier, a 12.4% jump at current exchange rates.

That gap between constant and current rates tells its own tale. A roughly €310 million negative currency impact weighed on the top line by the end of September, yet the leather business still posted double-digit growth. In a year when peers have leant on price increases to mask volume softness, Hermès appears to be the rare house where both new models and long-established products are selling strongly — the group attributed the performance precisely to “strong demand for both new models and established products.”

New models, same obsession

The collections were expanded with pieces such as the Double Longe, the Besace Attelée and the Bride de Jour, additions that keep the waiting lists turning without diluting the brand’s exclusivity. Hermès does not chase trends; it refreshes a tightly controlled catalogue and lets desire do the rest. That discipline is exactly why its leather division can grow in the high single digits to low double digits while competitors report flat or declining leather sales.

Capacity built for the long term

Behind the demand sits a supply chain that the house continues to invest in deliberately. In April it inaugurated its 25th leather goods workshop, in Loupes, Gironde, and has mapped out three more in France: Charleville-Mézières by 2027, Colombelles by 2028 and Les Andelys by 2030. Each new atelier is a bet that the appetite for hand-made leather goods will outlast the current macro fog — and a quiet rebuttal to analysts who assume luxury demand has peaked.

For tanneries and component suppliers in the Hermès value chain, the message is unambiguous: the most selective buyer in the industry is expanding, not retrenching. That underpins steady, premium-order books for the specialised leather and hardware makers who feed the métiers.

Where the growth came from

Geography tells a reassuringly broad story. In the third quarter, the Americas grew 8.8% at constant exchange rates, Europe excluding France rose 9.5%, and Japan advanced 9.6%, while France itself grew a more modest 3.6%. Over the nine-month window the Americas led with 13.1% growth, followed by Japan at 10.5% and Europe excluding France at 9%.

Asia-Pacific excluding Japan held flat at constant exchange rates, though it rose 3.8% at current rates, and the “Other” geographical area — mainly the Middle East — declined 4.5% at constant rates. The pattern is familiar: resilient Western and Japanese clients, a stabilising but cautious greater China, and selective softness in the Gulf.

Why it matters

Hermès’s result is more than a single quarter of good numbers. It is evidence that genuine craft scarcity, disciplined distribution and vertical integration still win when the cycle turns uncertain. The house maintained its “ambitious medium-term revenue growth objective at constant exchange rates” despite what it called economic, geopolitical and monetary uncertainties — a statement of confidence that contrasts sharply with the caution elsewhere in luxury.

For the leather industry, the takeaway is encouraging. Even as headline luxury demand cools, the highest-end leather goods continue to pull demand, supporting upstream tanneries, finishing houses and workshops that supply the world’s most coveted bags. Hermès is not just surviving the 2026 slowdown; its leather division is quietly defining what resilience looks like.

Source: Leathernews.org

Hermès Leather Goods and Saddlery revenue grew 10.8% to €1.91 billion in Q3 2026, outperforming the wider luxury sector as demand for its bags stayed strong.

[4
1778,215,206,994,1777,1535,1065
post-3103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-industry-news","tag-birkin-kelly","tag-hermes-2","tag-leather-goods","tag-luxury-earnings","tag-q3-2026","tag-revenue-growth","tag-saddlery
["GET
