Brazilian Tanneries Take Center Stage at Inspiramais as Leather Sector Seeks Global Spotlight

Seventeen Brazilian tanneries are presenting their latest leather collections at Inspiramais, the materials and fashion sourcing event taking place July 7-8 at the Pro Magno Event Center in São Paulo. The event, dedicated to the 2027-II season under the theme “Essence,” positions Brazilian leather as a central feature of the global sourcing calendar and gives buyers an early look at trends extending into the first half of 2028.

Leather will be a key attraction at the event, with exhibitors showcasing a diverse range of materials. Bovine leathers, including hair-on hides and various finishes, will be displayed alongside exotic leathers such as pirarucu fish and python. This diversity reflects Brazil’s position as one of the world’s largest leather-producing countries, with a supply chain that spans from cattle ranching through to high-end finished materials.

The participating tanneries represent a cross-section of Brazil’s leather industry. Names like Arte da Pele, Couroquímica, CR Leather, Curtume Toizinho, Exótic Couros, Faf Couros, Mucca Pelli, Nova Kaeru, and others will present their latest developments to an audience of designers, buyers, and fashion professionals from across Brazil and beyond. The concentration of tanneries in one venue creates a competitive but collaborative environment where trends can be assessed and sourcing decisions made efficiently.

Inspiramais also features a Leather Preview exhibition, which offers visitors an early look at leather trends for the first half of 2028. This forward-looking element is increasingly important in an industry where design lead times are long and buyers need to plan materials sourcing well in advance of product launches. The Leather Preview features specially developed collections inspired by future fashion directions, giving attendees a sense of where the market is heading.

The event is promoted by a coalition of industry organizations, including the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods (Assintecal), the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit), the Brazilian Furniture Industry Association (Abimóvel), and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). This broad sponsorship reflects the cross-sector importance of leather in Brazil’s industrial economy, where the material serves footwear, furniture, fashion, and automotive markets.

For Brazilian tanneries, events like Inspiramais are critical for several reasons. First, they provide direct access to domestic and international buyers, supporting export growth in a market where Brazil has established strong positions. Second, they showcase Brazilian innovation in sustainable leather production, an area where the country has invested significantly. Third, they reinforce Brazil’s brand as a source of high-quality, diverse leather materials.

The timing is significant. Brazil’s leather exports surpassed $1.2 billion in 2024, driven by market diversification and strong demand from key destinations. The industry has been working to expand its presence in Asia, Europe, and North America, and events like Inspiramais serve as a platform for maintaining and building those commercial relationships.

The inclusion of exotic leathers, including pirarucu fish and python, also reflects the industry’s efforts to develop niche materials that command premium prices. These materials, sourced from sustainable and regulated supply chains, offer differentiation in a market where standard bovine leather faces intense price competition.

As the global leather industry navigates sustainability pressures, regulatory changes, and competition from synthetic alternatives, events like Inspiramais demonstrate that natural leather remains a vital, evolving material. The 17 tanneries presenting at São Paulo this week are making the case that Brazilian leather combines tradition, innovation, and commercial competitiveness.
