Ifema Madrid Unveils a United Fashion Strategy to ModaEspaña

In a move described as a milestone, Ifema Madrid has presented its new fashion-sector strategy directly to the General Assembly of ModaEspaña — the first time the trade-fair giant has shared this vision so openly with the full ecosystem of Spanish fashion. It is a signal that, amid rapid market transformation, Ifema intends to be a partner to the industry rather than merely a landlord of event space.

The presentation drew the sector’s heavy hitters. Representatives attended from AEGP (knitwear), SFA (fur), Asefma (leather goods), Fedecom (confection), FICE (Spanish footwear federation), Sebime (costume jewellery), Afydad (sporting goods), ACME (fashion creators), Acotex (textile, accessories and leather retail), Fedeto, Cointega, the Textile and Fashion Observatory, ARTE, Regalo-Fama, Modacc, the Catalan Fashion and Textile Cluster, and Fitca — a roll-call of Spanish fashion’s institutional backbone.

The context is one of accelerating commercial cycles, evolving retail and intensifying global competition, all of which is reshaping how fairs and events function. Ifema’s answer is a shared roadmap built on four strategic axes common to all its fairs: industry, talent, internationalisation and sustainability. The plan also includes a review of the fair calendar, realigned to the key buying moments of the year to maximise business generation for brands.

The strategy comes alive through Ifema’s flagship platforms. Momad reinforces its role as the broad business space for brands with identity and international projection; Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid consolidates its position as the creative engine and showcase for Spanish design; while Bisutex and Madridjoya deepen the connection between product, trend and distribution in accessories, costume jewellery and jewellery, strengthening their pull on national and international buyers.

The presentation itself was led by Arancha Priede, Ifema Madrid’s director general of fair and congress business, alongside Asier Labarga, director of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid and of the lifestyle and healthcare areas, and Julia González, director of fashion, beauty and lifestyle fairs. Bringing the strategy straight to the associations reinforces Ifema’s claim to be a strategic ally of the industry.

“This strategy responds to a real transformation of the fashion sector and is born with a clear vocation: to accompany brands in their new business challenges,” Priede said. “From Ifema Madrid we want to reinforce our role as a useful platform for the industry, aligned with its timing, its needs and its international projection, and to do so jointly with the entire ecosystem that ModaEspaña represents.”

For Spanish leather and footwear, represented at the table by FICE and Acotex, the significance is practical. A fair calendar and platform strategy aligned with real buying rhythms can translate directly into order volumes and international reach — the metrics that matter when margins are thin. Ifema’s willingness to listen actively and co-design with the sector, rather than dictate, may prove as valuable as any single event. The assembly marks one more step in Ifema’s effort to build a fair model tuned to the industry’s actual needs — at a decisive moment of transformation for fashion.
