OrthoLite Names Marius Wirtz as CEO, Ushering in New Era After Three Decades Under Founder Glenn Barrett

OrthoLite, the dominant force in performance and comfort insoles for the global footwear industry, has named Marius Wirtz as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking the end of an era as founder Glenn Barrett steps down after nearly three decades of leadership. The transition takes effect on July 15, 2026, and signals both continuity and evolution at one of the footwear supply chain’s most influential component manufacturers.

Barrett built OrthoLite from a niche insole company into an industry standard. Today, OrthoLite insoles are found in over 500 million pairs of shoes annually, serving virtually every major athletic, outdoor, and lifestyle footwear brand on the planet. The company’s success lies in its relentless focus on comfort technology — open-cell polyurethane foam that offers breathability, durability, and customisation — combined with a manufacturing footprint that spans multiple continents. Barrett’s departure to a senior advisory role at Coats Group, OrthoLite’s parent company, is designed to ensure continuity. He will work closely with Wirtz during the handover period before formally passing the leadership baton.

A Materials Expert at the Helm

Wirtz arrives with a résumé calibrated precisely for OrthoLite’s future. With more than 25 years of experience in global materials and specialty chemicals, his expertise in polyurethane-based applications for footwear aligns directly with the company’s core technology. Most recently at Covestro, one of the world’s leading polymer manufacturers, Wirtz built a career spanning collaboration with top-tier footwear and sports brands on materials innovation across the value chain. He will be based in Hong Kong — the nerve centre of Asia’s footwear manufacturing ecosystem — and will report to Pasquale Abruzzese, Footwear CEO and Group Chief Operating Officer at Coats Group.

“OrthoLite is a company I deeply admire for its pioneering spirit, market leadership, iconic brand status and world-class customer relationships,” Wirtz said in his first public statement. “I am honoured to continue the legacy Glenn Barrett has built and look forward to working with the entire team to drive OrthoLite’s next phase of growth.”

What the Transition Means for the Footwear Supply Chain

For the broader footwear and leather industry, the OrthoLite leadership change matters because of the company’s near-ubiquitous presence in the supply chain. When a brand like Nike, Adidas, or Puma selects an insole supplier, that decision ripples through thousands of SKUs and millions of units. OrthoLite’s market position means that its strategic direction — whether toward bio-based materials, circular design, or enhanced performance — shapes the component choices of an entire industry.

Abruzzese’s statement that Barrett leaves “an incredible legacy” at OrthoLite is more than corporate courtesy. Barrett took a component that most consumers never think about and made it a selling point — a testament to the power of engineering-led brand building in the B2B space. The question now is what Wirtz, with his deep materials expertise and Covestro pedigree, will bring to the formula. Expectations are high, and the Hong Kong base suggests Asia’s role in OrthoLite’s future will only grow.
