Genesco Unveils First Wrangler Footwear Collection Under Kontoor Brands Licensing Deal
Genesco has launched its first Wrangler footwear collection, marking the debut of a multi-year licensing agreement with Kontoor Brands, the owner of the iconic denim and lifestyle label. The move extends Wrangler’s rugged Western identity from apparel into a full footwear range and gives Genesco a fresh lifestyle brand to scale within its portfolio.
The Autumn/Winter 2026 collection spans men’s, women’s and children’s footwear across Western, work and casual categories. It was launched on 15 September on Wrangler.com, with select US retailers set to follow later in the season. Prices range from 100 to 240 US dollars, positioning the line as an accessible but premium extension of the Wrangler wardrobe.
Rick Higgins, president of Genesco Brands Group, framed the launch as a strategic milestone. “Wrangler represents a significant growth opportunity for Genesco Brands Group and reflects our strategy to build and scale leading lifestyle brands in footwear,” he said. “We’ve combined Wrangler’s iconic heritage and deep connection with consumers with our footwear expertise to create a collection that is unmistakably Wrangler.”
For Wrangler, footwear is a natural extension of a brand built on authentic Western roots and rugged everyday style. Steve Armus, vice president of licensing and collaborations at Wrangler, said the partnership plays to both companies’ strengths. “Genesco’s proven footwear expertise makes them the ideal partner to translate our authentic style into a comprehensive collection,” he noted, pointing to the combination of durability, craftsmanship and Genesco’s industry-leading capabilities.
The collaboration arrives at a moment when Western styling continues to resonate with US consumers, and when brand-owned licensing has become a core growth lever for footwear groups looking to diversify beyond their house names. For Genesco, which has spent recent years rationalising its brand portfolio and leaning into licensed and owned lifestyle labels, Wrangler adds a high-recognition name with broad demographic appeal across men’s, women’s and children’s segments.
The collection’s emphasis on full-grain leather and denim textiles, alongside work-product styles built to meet ASTM safety-toe and slip- and oil-resistance standards, signals an attempt to straddle fashion and function — a balance that has historically been difficult but potentially lucrative if executed well. Select work styles in particular open a path into the demanding occupational footwear segment, where brand trust and durability claims matter as much as price.
If the launch performs, it could become a template for further category expansion under the Wrangler name. For now, the companies are keeping distribution measured: a direct-to-consumer debut on Wrangler’s own site, followed by a controlled rollout to retail partners. That sequencing lets both sides read demand before committing to broader wholesale placement — a prudent approach in a market where consumers remain cautious about discretionary spend.
