CHIC Autumn 2026 Draws 61,824 Buyers to Shanghai as China’s Fashion Fair Doubles Down on Global Reach

CHIC Autumn 2026 proved once again that Shanghai remains the gravitational center of Asia’s fashion trade. Held from August 25 to 27 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre, the China International Fashion Fair welcomed 61,824 trade visitors and 738 exhibitors across 53,000 square metres and 11 distinct exhibition segments. For an industry still recalibrating after years of disrupted supply chains and shifting consumer habits, the numbers send a clear signal: physical trade fairs are not just surviving, they are expanding.

The scale of the event is remarkable. Eleven segments spanned womenswear, menswear, accessories, denim, outdoor and sportswear, digital fashion, and international brands. A dedicated showcase titled “Chinese Style” put contemporary Chinese fashion and craftsmanship front and center, underscoring a deliberate push to reframe Chinese design from “manufacturer of the world” to “creator for the world.”

What set this edition apart was its international dimension. Exhibitors traveled from Italy, the UAE, South Korea, Japan, and India, while buyers arrived from 17 countries including France, Italy, Turkey, and Brazil. That mix matters. For overseas brands eyeing the Chinese consumer, CHIC has become the on-ramp; for Chinese manufacturers, it is the showcase where global buyers come to source.

Chen Dapeng, President of the China National Garment Association and CHIC, framed the result as proof of “the dynamism of China’s fashion industry and the growing importance of international exchange for its future development.” With 61,824 trade visitors and buyers from 17 countries, he said, the edition “confirms our commitment to continuously strengthening CHIC as a global business platform.”

The organizers built infrastructure to convert foot traffic into deals. The CHIC Worldwide segment was designed specifically to help overseas companies understand and enter the Chinese market, connecting them with partners, retailers, and buyers. CHIC Matching ran four matchmaking events tailored to sourcing requirements, and notably, 70% of the buyers in the dedicated session for overseas apparel brands were participating in that format for the first time — a sign that international suppliers are taking China seriously as a destination, not just a sourcing base.

The business programme added substance to the spectacle. Eight Business Trend Sessions tackled AI-powered design, digital transformation, e-commerce, and international expansion. German e-commerce company ABOUT YOU contributed a session on the opportunities and challenges facing fashion brands expanding across European markets, a telling choice given how much cross-pollination now exists between Asian manufacturing and European retail strategy.

Looking ahead, the Spring 2027 edition is scheduled for March 10–12 at the same venue under the theme “THE WAY.” Organizers plan to expand the international buyer programme with stronger focus on delegations from Europe, the Americas, and RCEP countries. That forward planning suggests CHIC intends to keep widening its aperture.

For the leather and footwear sectors, CHIC’s momentum is encouraging. A trade fair that attracts tens of thousands of qualified buyers is exactly the environment where tanneries, component suppliers, and finished-goods brands can meet the people who move product. As global fashion grapples with tariff uncertainty and a cautious consumer, the appetite to show up, shake hands, and make deals in person looks stronger than ever.

The takeaway is simple: Shanghai’s flagship fashion fair is betting big on cross-border exchange, and the numbers say the bet is paying off.
